Tech entrance

Bhubaneswar: Online application for the JEE-Main, a common national exam for engineering admissions, will be open from November 15 to December 26. Tech aspirants can enrol themselves on www.jeemain.nic.in. The offline mode of the exam will be held on April 6.

Kidnap cuffs

Balangir: Police arrested a middle-aged woman, the chief of a well-known NGO, and four others on charge of kidnapping two youths and torturing them. The accused allegedly poured liquor on them and urinated on them. All the accused were remanded in judicial custody after their bail was rejected.

Murder arrest

Jajpur: A 50-year-old man was arrested on charges of killing his younger brother over a family dispute at Ranapur in the district. Police also arrested two sons of the accused, who were accomplice in the crime. Anirudha Rana, 49, a potter, was attacked on a boat. He died on his way to hospital.

Killer jumbo

Balasore: An elephant trampled a 72-year-old man to death in Nilgiri on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Hati Singh, 72, of Ganapatisahi village. The range officer of Kuldiha, Rabinarayan Mohapatra, said Singh’s family members would get compensation according to rules.

Protest

Balasore: Residents of Jaleswar blocked a road which connects their area with Chandaneswar following the death of a 30-year-old woman after childbirth. The residents alleged that negligence of doctors of a government hospital caused the death. They locked the gates of the hospital to protest against the death of Sunita Das, the woman.

Hooch death

Bhubaneswar: Three persons, including a woman, of Totagaon village died allegedly after consuming illicit country liquor. While two persons died in the village, another person, who lost his eyesight after consuming the poisonous brew, died at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. owever, there was no official confirmation on the deaths.

Sports boost

Cuttack: The Odisha Olympic Association has decided to add 17 new districts of the state along with affiliating two state sports associations.
