Top spot for Nitish

Nitish Das annexed the title of the Rajbari AC Prize-money Open Chess Tournament, scoring six points from seven rounds at Manipuri Basti here today. He ended with a draw against Maharnav Deka in the final round.

Guwahati, Nov. 14: Nitish Das annexed the title of the Rajbari AC Prize-money Open Chess Tournament, scoring six points from seven rounds at Manipuri Basti here today. He ended with a draw against Maharnav Deka in the final round.

Amlan Mahanta also scored six points from an equal number of rounds but was declared second on the basis of tie-break scores. He defeated Rajdip Das in the final round.

Trailokya Nanda scored 5.5 points to be placed third, after being held to a draw in his final round game by Pranab Kumar Nath.

Maharnav Deka, Nirmal Jyoti Sharma, Shahil Dey and Pranab Kumar Nath scored 5.5 points each, to be placed fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively, according to their tie-break scores. Rajdip Das, Chiraranjan Bhuyan and Khanindra Barman got five points each for the eighth, ninth and 10th positions.

In the under-7 boys' event, Faheem N.H. Borah scored four points for the first position, while Mayank Chakraborty finished second with three points. Ikshita Ray Barman emerged first in the under-7 girls' event with three points.

In the under-9 boys' event, Anchit Thakuria claimed the first position with 4.5 points, followed by Bhringish Kalita with four points in the second spot. In the under-9 girls' category, Aslesha Talukdar scored four points for the top position and Ananya Deka tallied 3.5 points for the second place.

In the under-11 boys' category, Nihad Islam Hazarika scored 4.5 points and was placed first. Puskar Basak got four points for the second spot.

In the under-11 girls' event, Adreeja Sinha scored 4.5 points for the first position, followed by Swarnika Biswas with 1.5 points in second spot.

Mridumoloy Das tallied 3.5 for the under-13 boys' first position and Nishi Prantik Mahanta scored three for the second place. Among under-13 girls, Anoushka Priyam and Upashna Thangjam scored four and one for the first and second spots respectively.

Sankar Sarma was named the Best Veteran with five points, while Hiranya Das finished second with equal points.

Altogether 70 players participated in the tournament.
