Tezpur, Aug 8: Tezpur Central University vice-chancellor P.C. Deka continued to abscond for the fourth consecutive day today. He is being sought in connection with a case of financial irregularities during his tenure as dean of the Assam Agriculture University (AAU).
Deka has been untraceable since Saturday, the day after AAU lodged an FIR with Jorhat police, accusing him of financial indiscretion.
Tezpur University registrar Mahendra Ahom said Deka has not contacted the office till now. Though the development was unfortunate, he said it has not affected the university’s normal functioning.
Faculty member and head of the energy department Dolan Konwar has been asked to officiate as the V-C of the university in Deka’s absence.
The AAU had filed the FIR with Jorhat police against the V-C, charging him with opening a bank account in the university’s name without obtaining the necessary permission from a competent authority.
Sources said Deka had opened the account to deposit funds flowing in from different agencies for research and other activities. Police sources said the case against Deka was non-bailable.
