Nov. 24: There is bad news for cricket lovers.
After the India-England ODI in the city on Saturday, they might miss the rest of the battle between Mahi’s men and Kevin Pietersen’s squad on TV sets.
The Greater Guwahati Cable TV Operators Association today expressed doubts over the telecast of the India-England cricket series as Neo Sports, the broadcaster of the matches, has threatened to switch off its signals to the cable operators soon.
The local distributor of the Neo Sports has sent a letter to the Guwahati Cable Communication (GCC) instructing it to clear outstanding dues amounting to Rs 141,754 immediately failing which it has threatened to deactivate its services in the city.
The GCC, comprising 10 city-based multi-service operators (MSOs), is itself a part of the Greater Guwahati Cable TV Operators Association. The general secretary of the association, Iquebal Ahmed, said the cable TV operators in the city were not in a position to pay the outstanding dues to Neo Sports immediately.
He said the GCC, comprising 10 city-based MSOs which run satellite and pay channels, had signed an agreement with Neo Sports on March 1 for the telecast of the matches for the city residents through cable operators.
“One of the MSOs of the GCC failed to give its dues amounting to Rs 25 lakh for which the GCC has faced problems in paying monthly dues to various pay channels including Neo Sports.
The GCC collects cable TV fees from the city residents on a monthly basis through its various operators.
“At the end of month, it pays the monthly subscription fees to various pay channels. We are trying to collect the dues from the defaulter MSO,” Ahmed said.
An official associated with local distribution of Neo Sports said the cable operators had failed to clear the dues despite repeated requests.
City police on Monday issued an order declaring the entire stretch of B. Borooah Road as a no parking zone in view of the ODI.
