Guwahati, March 23: The Centre today admitted that it was not engaged in any discussions with Myanmar and China on reopening Stilwell Road.

This was informed by Union minister of state for external affairs V.K. Singh in Parliament while replying to a question by Assam MP Ranee Narah.

The reply has come amid speculations that the Centre was going to reopen Stilwell Road to connect the northeastern part of the country with other Southeast Asian countries.

Singh said India, Myanmar and Thailand had agreed to cooperate in the construction of India-Myanmar-Thailand Highway. Under this, the Centre is implementing two projects - construction of 69 bridges, including approach roads on the Tamu-Kyigone-Kalewa section and upgrade of a road on the Kalewa-Yargi section of the trilateral highway in Myanmar.

On Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar economic corridor, Singh said the four countries have agreed to establish a joint study group on strengthening connectivity in the corridor. He said two meetings of the joint study groups have taken place and the study is under way.
