Assam register VM Trophy win

Guwahati: Assam entered the knockout stage of the Vijay Merchant Trophy (under-17) cricket championship from the East Zone, routing hosts Sikkim by an innings and 106 runs in their last three-day match that concluded at Rongpo on Sunday. Set to chase Assam’s 308-run first innings target, the hosts were skittled out for 48 and 154.

Junior meet

Guwahati: The Assam Football Association will organise the junior national (northeast zone) championship at Gossaigaon from January 28. Seven teams will take part in the league-cum-knockout meet. The champion team of this zone will move to the final round to be held in Jharkhand.

Final match

Guwahati: Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre will meet Bud Cricket Club in the final of 12th Dinesh Baruah cricket championship at Latasil ground here on Tuesday. The coaching centre team entered the final beating hosts Ankurjyoti Club, while Bud got the better of Santipur Athletic Club.

Zaloni tourney

Guwahati: An all-Assam junior tennis tournament, sponsored by Oil India Ltd, will be held at Zaloni Club tennis courts in Duliajan from January 18 to 24.
