Guwahati, April 5: Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti got the better of SBOA English High School by two wickets in the 2nd All Assam Dinendra Nath Gohain and Dharmendra Sarmah inter-school (under-16) cricket tournament at the Janata Bhawan Parade Ground here today.
Batting first in an over-curtailed match, the SBOA School posted a respectable total of 135 for five in 18 overs and in reply, the Sarala Birla team reached 139 for eight in 14.3 overs.
Zulfikar Ali topscored for SBOA School with 26 runs off 13 balls and Hrishikesh Goswami chipped in with 24. Arnab Bharali of Sarala Birla scalped two wickets for 36 runs.
For Sarala Birla, Saurav Bagaria topscored with a quickfire 42 off 19 balls. He was later declared Man of the Match. Abdul Mashik also contributed 33.
Jyotirmoy Deka of SBOA School claimed three wickets for 21 runs and Bhaskar Talukdar hauled two for three runs.
On Saturday, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Khanapara, defeated Sanskriti — The Gurukul by 24 runs.
In the truncated to 17-over-a-side match the KVK boys scored 124 for five wickets. In reply, The Gurukul team managed to score only 100 losing eight wickets in the stipulated overs.
Tomorrow, Fairyland High School will play Maharishi Vidya Mandir and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Maligaon, will face Srimanta Sankar Academy.
