Dhemaji: Assam Tourism Development Corporation chairman Jayanta Malla Barua, who is on a two-day tour of Majuli, on Friday declared Rs 75 crore for the river island.
He said under the leadership of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, the state will be able to attract tourists from the country and abroad.
"Due to the negligence of the previous government, the tourism industry couldn't take proper shape and people who wished to visit could not do so because of the poor infrastructure," he said.
Barua said modern resorts would be opened at Kamalabari, Bangoan, Halmora and Jengerai and Prasanti Lodge would be developed with an open-air theatre.
A site to view migratory birds will be opened at Charaichang, Dakhinpat and Dariaghat over the Tuni river and Kamalabari ghat.
Boat safari facilities will be opened at Dariapara, Kerkatiahuti and Chelekghat and an information centre for tourists at Gormur, Nimati and Kamalabari.
A mask sculpture and weaving exhibition centre will also be opened.
Traditional cuisine will be showcased, two river cruises launched and the historic Ravana pond will be developed.
"An information office was opened in Kaziranga in 1965, but no interest was taken for Majuli. Now, the current government is taking an interest in developing historical places," Baruah said.
