Itanagar, Feb. 15: Residents of Arunachal Pradesh will no longer have travel over 350km to Guwahati to get their passports as a new passport seva kendra has been inaugurated here today.

Now all the states in the Northeast have a passport seva kendra, chief passport officer Muktesh Pardeshi, who attended today's launch, said. "Going to Guwahati for a passport is an arduous task."

Pardeshi said the centre here would save valuable time and money of residents of Arunachal. Bobby Hano, an entrepreneur from Ziro, agreed with the chief passport officer and said he had to spend a substantial amount of money to get his passport made from Guwahati a few years ago.

Guwahati regional passport officer Bibhuti Bhushan Kumar, who also attended the inauguration, said the new kendra would accept 10 general-category applications daily initially and the plan is to increase this number.
