When he visits the city to judge the Mega Miss North East pageant next month, he may sew together an opportunity that models from the region have only dreamt of.

Ace fashion designer Hemant Trivedi, the official grooming expert for Femina Miss India contest, will be here to assess aspirants from across the region. And the models who will be able to impress the “perfectionist” designer will stand a fair chance to be part of the Femina Miss India contest in 2008.

Abhijeet Singha, the brain behind the Mega Miss North East pageant said Trivedi’s consent to judge the contest meant a huge leap for the local fashion industry. “Till date, not a single beauty contest in the city or in the region has seen a judge of Trivedi’s stature. This time the contest will be tough and interesting. The winners will be those who have a heady combination of grace, beauty and intelligence,” said Singha.

“I got conformation from Trivedi over phone just yesterday.I am on the seventh heaven after getting the news. He, too, is quite excited to be part of a contest that will bring to the fore some of the most beautiful faces of the Northeast,” added Singha.

The grand finale of the beauty pageant will be organised by the fashion house Mega Entertainment at ITA Pragjyoti Cultural Complex, Machkhowa, in the later part of July.

“We are receiving entries from models across the region. But we are only selecting girls who have the power to rock the ramp. Besides Trivedi, the girls will be judged by some of the most revered names in the fashion and entertainment industry of the country.

The contestants will be assessed on the basis of their appearance, figure, communication skills, stage presence, wit, poise and ability to answer questions,” said Singha.

“Our contest has always espoused social and environmental issues. This time our emphasis is on spreading the message of environmental protection through our contestants.”

The organisers will also give the winner an opportunity to participate in Miss Earth Phillipines 2008 and Galdrags Mega Model contest 2008.

As for Trivedi’s participation, the region’s fashion industry is already keeping its fingers crossed.
