Imphal, March 28: The banned Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) of Manipur has asked its members to “shoot at sight” anybody found trying to help students sitting for the matriculation examination, beginning tomorrow.
The militant organisation, known to target examination officials who shirk their responsibilities, today warned people against gathering within a 500-metre radius of all examination centres.
The KYKL said its diktat was to prevent students from resorting to unfair means during the matriculation examination, which continues till April 12. The organisation said its special task force would execute any person violating the express orders.
People found loitering within the 500m radius during examination hours would be severely punished.
It appealed to the officials of the Board of Secondary Education of Manipur and the invigilators of examination centres to ensure a fair examination.
The militant organisation warned that if any official allows the students to adopt unfair means in the examination, the person would be forced to retire from service. A five-year expulsion awaits students, who were caught “cheating or copying” during the examination.
The KYKL said steps have been taken as a part of its campaign named “Operation New Kangleipak” to usher in quality education in Manipur.
The district magistrates in the state have also issued prohibitory orders at all examination centres.
More than 27,000 candidates would appear in this year’s examination in 91 centres, including 56 private ones, across the state.
The Board of Secondary Education of Manipur has taken special measures to stop the students from adopting unfair methods in the examination. A board official said flying squads, comprising four officials, would do their rounds at all centres.
The board’s chairman S. Nabachandra Singh appealed to the people to abstain from calling any bandh, blockade or strike till the examinations are over.
The Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur has announced that it would deploy inspection teams at examination centres to extend help to the authorities.
