Lakhimpur enter final

Dibrugarh, Dec. 16: Lakhimpur Commerce College entered the final of the Dibrugarh University inter-college cricket tournament, defeating CKB Commerce College, Jorhat, by 52 runs in the first semi-final at the university playground in Dibrugarh today.

CKB Commerce College won the toss and elected to field.

The Lakhimpur team rode on two good knocks by Kaushik Hazarika and Kunal Saikia to post a total of 196 losing nine wickets in the stipulated 35 overs.

Kaushik scored 43 runs from 57 deliveries including one boundary and one hit over the ropes, while Ranji player Kunal made a breezy knock of 028 off just 20 balls, including five boundaries.

Arifullah Khan and Hemanta Das made 25 runs each.

Mithu Singh, Istiak Ali and Santi Ranjan Dey picked up a couple of wickets each for the Jorhat team.

In reply, CKB College could score only 144 runs losing all their wickets with 10 balls remaining. Santi Ranjan Dey was the topscorer for the side, with 31 runs in 39 deliveries. His knock included two boundaries and one six. Mithu Singh remained unbeaten on 30, facing 34 deliveries.

Lakhimpur College had entered the finals of the tournament for the first time.

Pranjal Hazarika and Monikiran Das picked up three wickets each for Lakhimpur.

Tomorrow, North Lakhimpur College will take on Bir Lachit College in the second semifinal. The final will be played on Tuesday.
