Police recover body

The body of a woman was recovered from a roadside drain near the Brahmaputra Board office in Basistha Chariali on Monday. Police said the woman appeared to be in her early twenties. She had injury marks on her head. he identity of the victim and the cause of death is yet to be ascertained. A case of unnatural death has been registered at Basistha police station.

Electoral rolls

Deputy commissioner and district election officer of Kamrup, Ganesh Kumar Kalita, have published the final electoral rolls for the constituencies of Guwahati East, Guwahati West, Jalukbari, Dispur, Boko, Chaygaon, Palasbari and Hajo.

Part II exam

Gauhati University on Monday announced that BA/BSc and BCom Part II examinations 2006 would be held from March 27.

Court hearing

B>lGauhati High Court has fixed March 20 as the next date of hearing on the public interest litigation seeking a blanket ban on any form of bandh in the state.

Annual week

RG Baruah College recently celebrated its annual week. Sports events and other extra curricular activitieswere organised on the occasion.

Child labour

B>lNGO workers from all over the Northeast participated in a three-day workshop on child labour organised by the Campaign against Child Labour, a voluntary association, in the city. The seminar concluded on Monday.

Competition

The Rupvarnam Fine Art Society is organising an all-Assam spot-painting contest at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra on February 25. The contest is open to schoolchildren from nursery to Class X.

RBI officials

Usha Thorat, deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, has asked banks in the Northeast to take support of the community-based organisations to expand their business. The move will also benefit the rural masses. Thorat and senior RBI officials were recently on a visit to the Northeast.
