Aizawl: Mizoram Underground Returnees' Association (Mura), an association of former Mizo National Front rebels, on Thursday slammed the Mizoram PCC for not honouring its promises and failing to meet the demands of the association according to an agreement made in 2013.
Mura president P.C. Lalthuama said they had reached a 10-point agreements with the Congress before the 2013 Assembly polls, none of which except the housing scheme in part, were fulfilled by the party. He alleged that the Congress promised to fulfill their demands if it comes to power in the elections.
According to Lalthuama, the PCC according to their agreement, will give housing assistance to members of Mura.
"The Congress has failed to fulfill its promises and rehabilitate Mura members though it had allotted plots of lands to 45 members and gave new land use policy assistance to 35 members," he alleged.
He said there are about 3,500 members under the association across the state.
According to the agreement, Mura members and their next of kin are to be offered government jobs and muster roll employment but the PCC has not fulfilled this till date, he said.
Among others, the Congress also agreed to accord any suitable contract work to the members and to make them avail of any possible developments and economic benefits, he said.
"The government has not fulfilled any of its promises according to the agreement. We demand it to do so and meet our demands by June," he said, adding that they will review their agreement unless the government acts according to it.
Lalthuama said the association had submitted a memorandum to the President in 2015 asking him for rehabilitation and informing him about their plight. "The President directed the state to take swift action. But they have not done so," he said.
He said they met home minister R. Lalzirliana, who promised to recruit 10 members in the homeguard last year, which has also not materialised till date.
