ASTC on mishap

Guwahati, Oct. 28: The Assam State Transport Corporation today said lack of proper road sign and reckless driving by the private bus coming from opposite direction led to yesterday’s bus accident at Uluoni in Nagaon district which claimed nine lives and injured several.

15 injured

Jorhat: Fifteen people were injured after a night bus travelling from Barpeta to Tinsukia met with an accident near Kaliapani Tiniali about 20km from here.

Post mortem

Jorhat: The body of Sanat Ram Sahu, 30, who was lynched on Sunday by a mob at Bogapani tea estate under Digboi police station for reportedly raping a three-year old girl, was sent for post mortem on Monday.

Roads blocked

Jorhat: The Mudoijan unit of AASU blocked National Highway 37 at Teok in the district on Monday for about an hour demanding that the road to the Bharalua village be made pucca. Asomiya Yuba Mancha on Monday blocked AT Road near the Tocklai river for about an hour demanding dredging of the Tocklai and Bhogdoi rivers.

Waterlogged

Jorhat: The surgical ward of Jorhat Medical College and Hospital here was filled with water after storm lashed the district on Monday.

Park visit

Jorhat: Assam forest, panchayati raj and rural development minister Rakibul Hussain and parliamentary secretary for home affairs Atuwa Munda visited the Dibru-Saikhowa National Park on Monday.

Body found

Dhubri: The body of a 14-month-old child, Sameya Khatun of Jhagrarpar village, was fished out from a waterbody on Sunday night.

Foundation

Haflong: NC Hills Autonomous Council chief executive member Debojeet Thaosen on Monday laid the foundation of a project to develop the Lanka-Garampani Road.
