Guwahati, May 16: Dipu Pradhan of St Peter’s School, Nazira, leads the pawn group with five points after defeating overnight joint leader Simran Ahmed of Pearl Valley School in the fifth round of the 23rd PC Borooah Children’s Chess at Shilpgram here today.

In the top board, third seed Simran played well to gain the advantage but crossed the time limit and eventually lost the game. Simran, now in second spot with four points, is followed by Prasurjya Das of Army Public School, Narengi, Debashish Parashar of Delhi Public School Duliajan, Amlan Mahanta of KV IOC, Divyanga Spondon Baruah of Delhi Public School, Duliajan and Jetaban Borthakur of St Xavier’s School, Duliajan with four points from five rounds.

In the second board, Satabdajit S. Baruah (3.5 points) of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Mangaldoi, drew with Prasurjya Das. In the third board, Mayukh Dutta (3 points) of Don Bosco, Mangaldoi lost to Debashish Parashar.

In the bishop group, Rishideep Bordoloi of Delhi Public School, Duliajan leads the field with five points from five rounds. Rishideep is closely followed by Kaustav Kashyap Das of Srimanta Sankar Academy and Mahasweta Kumar of Mangaldoi Town Girls High School with 4.5 points from five rounds.

Rituraj Borgohain of St Xavier’s School, Duliajan, Salim Raja of Victoria Memorial English School, and Biswajyoti Das of KV Khanapara are in third position with four points from five rounds.

Rishideep defeated Mrinmoy Kshetry of Carmel School, Digboi, while on the second board, Kaustav Kashyap Das beat Chiranjeet Boro of KV Khanapara.

On the third board, Mahasweta Kumar defeated Ankita Hazarika of KV Khanapara. The PC Borooah Chess Academy is organising the meet.

GVK EMRI defeated Bajaj Allianz by four wickets to lift the TOPCEM Mrityunjoy Cup in the corporate cricket meet that concluded at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium, Sarusajai yesterday.
