Guwahati, Dec. 26: Delhi Public School bagged the 2nd Abani Hazarika inter-school (under-14) cricket tournament title, defeating Srimanta Sankar Academy by six wickets in the final at Janata Bhawan Parade ground today.
Put to bat first, an unbeaten 81 by Rahul Hazarika helped Sankar Academy post a total of 182 for three in the stipulated 25 overs.
The DPS boys achieved the target losing four wickets with one ball remaining.
Subhankar Chakraborti also scored 44 for Sankar Academy while Abhilash Goswami remained not out on 25. Arijit Baruah (18) was another notable scorer.
Akshay Narayan, Sanjow Brahma and Dhrubajeet Kalita of DPS took a wicket each.
For DPS, skipper Sanjow Brahma topscored with 72 runs to be adjudged Man of the Match and Sangam Bora chipped in with 50. Pawan Thakuria also scored 30.
Subhankar Chakraborti, Pranay Rajbongshi and Mrinmoy Baishya of Sankar Academy shared a wicket each.
Subhankar Chakraborti was adjudged the Best Bowler of the tournament and Rahul Hazarika of Sankar Academy the Player of the Tournament.
DPS boys Sangam Bora and Hrishikesh Tamuli and Sankar Academy batsman Rahul Hazarika were specially awarded for scoring centuries in the tournament.
Kendriya Vidyalaya, Khanapara, will play Shakuntala Montessori and Army Public School will meet Rastriya Bhasha Purvottar Hindi Vidyalaya in two under-16 age group matches tomorrow.
