Guwahati, Feb. 2: A team of Delhi police has arrived here searching for Atanu Bhuyan, a Guwahati-based journalist and editor-in-chief of a private news channel, in a molestation case. Bhuyan is absconding.

A 35-year-old woman journalist filed a case of sexual harassment against Bhuyan on January 4, along with a complaint against Luit Neil Don, the Delhi correspondent of another Assam TV channel, at Rajouri Garden police station in Delhi, alleging that both had harassed and abused her sexually.

Following her complaint, a case (67/16) under Sections 376, 354, 509 and 34 of the IPC was lodged on January 28.

"Bhuyan could not be contacted and so a team was sent to take him into custody. But he has been absconding. A notice was served to him by the Tis Hazari court the same day to appear before the court within 15 days," deputy commissioner of police (West), New Delhi, Pushpendra Kumar, told The Telegraph today. A source in the news channel where Bhuyan is editor-in-chief said he had not been coming to office since January 27. Luit's anticipatory bail plea was rejected by Tis Hazari court in New Delhi on January 28.

The victim told this correspondent that she had worked for the news channel from August to December 2015, during which Bhuyan had, on several occasions, made offensive statements over phone. "He expressed his desire to have a physical relationship with me," she said. She alleged that Luit had "physically exploited" her. Sources close to Bhuyan said he was being "targeted with malicious intent".
