Shillong, Nov. 21: The German rock band Scorpions relishes Indian music, adores sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar and looks forward to performing in Shillong, Bangalore and Mumbai.

At a tele-press conference with the media here today, Rudolf Schenker, the founder member and guitarist of Scorpions, said from Germany that his band was excited to perform in India, the land of charming music and philosophy.

Scorpions will perform in Shillong on December 12 and Bangalore and Mumbai on December 14 and 16 respectively.

“While we perform, we derive our inspiration from the people who gather to listen to our music,” Schenker said.

He formed the band in 1965 and said every time they perform, they find new meaning in the same old numbers they sing.

The band will kick off its India programme, titled Humanitarian Tour, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex here with all the members of Scorpions — Klaus Meine (vocals), Matthias Jabs (guitar), James Kottak (drums) and Pawel Maciwoda (bass).

“Humanity is one and the world is our home. Believe in love and not war. Be happy and make others happy” is the message the Scorpions want to communicate to the people of Shillong and the rest of the country.

Concert: All India Radio, Shillong, will organise a folk music concert at State Central Library at 4.30pm here tomorrow. The programme will be broadcast live.

Meghalaya chief secretary Ranjan Chatterjee will be the chief guest.
