Coaches clear course

Imphal, Jan. 30: Sixteen coaches have emerged successful in the AFC ‘B’ Licence Certificate Course held in Imphal from November 28 to December 18.

The coaches include N. Phuthiba Singh, Ng. Bitan Singh, K. Ratan Singh, Kh. Surmani Singh, Milton Anthony P.K., Shreekumar R., Keshav Dutt, N. Tomba Singh, S. Amutombi Singh, H. Imo Singh, S. Somorjit Singh, Ratan Elangbam, Bobby L. Nongbet, K. Joy Kabui, Santanu Guha Thakurta and L. Kamlakanta Singh.

The successful coaches had to submit logbooks to get certificates.

Seven other coaches listed in the pass category are N. Laxmichand Singh, N. Maimu Singh and Ch. Nabachandra Singh, who will have to reappear for theory paper II.

T. Ibomcha Singh will reappear in theory paper I, S. Roshnikumar Singh, Naresh Chettry and O. Jet Singh will reappear in both Theory Paper I & II, according to a communiqué from the AIFF circulated to media by the association.

Awards

The Manipur Olympic Association has informed outstanding young sportspersons that the Airports Authority of India will be awarding the Sports Contract Scheme and Sports Scholarship 2012 & 2013 in various disciplines.

The scheme will be offered in athletics, boxing, badminton, chess, football, swimming and table tennis for athletes between 14 to 24 years while the sports scholarship will be provided for the age group between 14-18 years as on April 2012, in archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, football, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.

Under the contract scheme, sub-juniors and juniors who had represented the state will be given Rs 12,000 per month while those who have represented India will be given Rs 15,000.

Sportspersons who have participated in senior national and senior international meets can also get Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 per month respectively.

In the sports scholarship scheme, those between over 14 and 18 years can avail of Rs 5,000 and those above 18 years Rs 8,000 per month.

Sportspersons aspiring for the scheme have to contact the Manipur Olympic Association at Khuman Lampak sports complex.
