Silchar, Aug. 29: A sudden cloudburst for four hours in Cachar district since 4 this morning, resulting in torrential showers, had caused waterlogging for a considerable time in this town.

It choked traffic, impeding the movement of the pedestrians and closed down several morning schools for the day.

A senior official of the State Disaster Management Force said the Met office recorded a total of 39.8mm of rain

Many shops and bazaars in the town, which usually starts their business around 8am everyday, had kept their shutters down till 10.30am, because of this unusual rain.

However, only a light drizzle was reported from the two remaining Barak valley districts of Karimganj and Hailakandi.
