Guwahati, Nov. 9: Assam police are in touch with their Meghalaya counterparts after their intelligence wing traced Sahanur Alom, one of the “key conspirators” of the Burdwan blast, to the neighbouring state. Both the states share border with Bangladesh.

“We are in touch with Meghalaya police as our intelligence officials traced Sahanur to somewhere in Meghalaya on Thursday. He may try to sneak into Bangladesh through the international border in Dawki. BSF has been alerted about the development,” a source said.

Sources said Alom’s wife Sujina told interrogators that she was about to board a bus to Shillong when the special operations unit of Assam police and the CRPF arrested her on Thursday night near the inter-state bus terminus here.

Sujina was arrested for her alleged jihadi links and remanded in 14-day police custody, after she was produced in a court here yesterday. Her 14-month-old son was with her along with Sahanur’s brother Jakaria at the time.

Police sources told The Telegraph that the interrogators have been told to abide by the court directive to take proper care of the child and ensure he does not face any trauma during his mother’s stay in police remand.

Public prosecutor Minoti Saikia today said the court of special judicial magistrate, Assam, Sangita Haloi, yesterday asked the police to take proper care of her baby during Sujina’s police custody and provide him proper food, medicines and other necessary facilities.

The court said if the accused is a lactating mother, then she should be allowed to breastfeed her child.

“The court said apart from the time of her interrogation, the child should be allowed to stay with his mother and asked the police to make necessary arrangements for the child to play during his mother’s custody period,” Saikia said.

A police source said they are also examining the role of an NGO in facilitating Sujina’s travel to the city and her stay here. The source, however, refused to disclose the name of the NGO.
