Kokrajhar, Dec. 25 (PTI): An eight-inch needle was recovered today from the uterus of a woman, Rokeya Begum, following surgery in Kokrajhar district.

Rokeya, a resident of Puthimari village in Dhubri district, had complained of constant stomach ache ever since she underwent an abortion 12 years ago, said a spokesman for the nursing home where she was operated today.

Activist held

Dhubri: One Multa activist, identified as Nishan Ali, was arrested on Monday by Jat Regiment of the army from Demdema village in Dhubri district. A bomb was seized from him.

Holiday

Hailakandi: The Cachar district administration has announced a local holiday on Tuesday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Swamy Swarupananda Paramhansadev.

Frauds held

Hailakandi: Sukhen Das and Bijoy Malakar, employees of the State Bank of India and the water resources department in Hailakandi respectively, were handed over to police on Sunday by Algapur MLA Rahul Roy. The duo had allegedly collected bribes amounting to lakhs of rupees from 400 unemployed youths of Barak Valley.

Meeting

Dibrugarh: A meeting organised on Monday in Rohmoria under the aegis of Rohmoria Erosion Protection Samiti has decided to oppose the seismic survey on the Brahmaputra riverbed by the Oil India Limited.
