Hailakandi, Sept. 11: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is planning to start a Rajdhani Express from Agartala via the Barak Valley, NFR general manager C. Ram said today.

Ram was here to address various issues concerning railway services, including problems of the Lumding-Badarpur broad-gauge track.

Before leaving for Guwahati, the official said there was tremendous pressure from Tripura and Barak Valley to introduce the service.

'We plan to start the Rajdhani Express in the next few months. The date will be finalised after Durga Puja. Some technical issues related to the tracks will have to be resolved before the service begins as Rajdhani Express is a high-speed train and doesn't stop at all stations,' he said.

On the demand to start Silchar-Dibrugarh passenger train, the official said there is shortage of coaches at present but the demand was under consideration.

On cancellation of Silchar-Guwahati special night train, Ram said they would look into the matter.

Badarpur railway station will be opened soon and CCTV cameras will also be introduced to enhance the security system, he added.

Ram said the NF Railway has no plans to upgrade the Badarpur railway station into a division though there was a demand from local residents. The main hurdle is a manpower crunch, the official added.
