Dibrugarh, Sept. 13: Police today arrested three persons, including a suspected Myanmarese couple, from Sonari in Upper Assam’s Sivasagar district and recovered arms and ammunition from them.

The police at the Namtola checkpost under Sonari police station arrested the trio during a routine check early this morning. A police team, led by Ashim Bora, the officer in-charge of Namtola police outpost, carried out the search operation.

Bora said over phone that the trio were travelling in a night super bus travelling from Dimapur to Mon. The police have also detained the driver and his assistant.

The couple, Swang Konyak, 25, and 20-year-old Livyun Konyak have been held with their guide, Nokpen Konyak, who is a Naga.

“We have recovered 114 packets of air gun ammunition, 11 triggers and five packets of cartridge balls, each weighing around 5kg, some clothes and other personal belongings from them,” Bora said.

A case has been registered and investigations have begun.
