November is here. But the chill is missing and the rain does not seem to leave for good.
Light rain is likely in Calcutta on Friday and Saturday, said a Met official.
Moisture-laden easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal have stalled the flow of the cold and dry northwesterly winds — from the upper reaches of the country — into the city.
“The easterly winds are dominating the atmosphere right now. They have blocked the flow of northwesterly winds, which bring the customary chill this time of the year,” said G.K. Das, director, India Meteorological Department, Calcutta.
“The easterly winds are likely to trigger rain in Calcutta and neighbouring areas on Friday and Saturday,” said Das.
The Celsius is Calcutta has been on the rise. On Wednesday, the Met office recorded a maximum temperature of 32.4 degrees Celsius in Alipore, which serves as the official logbook for Calcutta.
The maximum temperature was almost two notches above normal.
“The easterly winds are likely to weaken after the spell lof showers. That will pave the way for the comeback of northwesterly winds into Calcutta,” said Das.
