Partha bail hearing
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh of the high court on Monday postponed the bail hearings of former minister Partha Chatterjee, former primary education board chief Manik Bhattacharya and his son Sauvik after ED counsel said the investigating officer of the probe into alleged corruption in school recruitments was changed in compliance with a high court order. "The new IO should be given some time to file an affidavit to oppose the bail prayers," the ED s lawyer told the judge. The judge fixed October 11 to hear Sauvik s bail plea, October 17 for Manik s and October 18 for Partha’s.
IIT case
Justice Jay Sengupta of the high court on Monday directed the special investigation team (SIT) constituted by the court to conduct a probe into the death of IIT student Faizan Ahmed to inform the court about the progress of the investigation into the case by Friday. The order followed a petition by the lawyer representing Faizan’s parents saying that despite repeated notices, the additional advocate general failed to appear before the court during the hearing of the case.
