A few days ago Mark Zuckerberg said you would be able to edit messages on WhatsApp. The rollout is happening quickly and people are using it quite a lot. In case you want to know how to use it, read on.

Messages sent via the Meta-owned messaging service can be edited for 15 minutes and messages that have been edited will come with an “edited” notification attached to it but the receiver won’t be able to see the history of what has been edited. In other words, nobody can view the original post or its history. “From correcting a simple misspelling to adding extra context to a message, we’re excited to bring you more control over your chats. All you need to do is long-press on a sent message and choose ‘Edit’ from the menu for up to 15 minutes after,” said WhatsApp.

To edit a message, all you need to do is press down on a message until a short menu appears. In it, there is an ‘edit’ option. In case your phone is not showing the menu, fret not because it will take a few weeks for the rollout to be complete globally.

Edit message is also a tool that Twitter rolled out only recently and is available only to Twitter Blue subscribers, allowing them a 30-minute window to edit a tweet after it has been sent. Unlike WhatsApp, users can see the history of the message edited on Twitter. Apple too offers an ability to unsend and edit messages, giving users the opportunity to fix a typo or pull back a message that you accidentally sent to the wrong person. Your recipient will see that you unsent a message and your edit history.

But one wonders what took Meta so long to roll out the feature because Facebook has had the ability for many years.
