The colour green manifested itself in all its splendour at the open-air winter meet of Doctors & Sarees Group Kolkata, held at the Sunderban lawns of ITC Sonar on the evening of January 15. Over 100 doctor divas walked the ramp with elan, danced their hearts out and took a solemn pledge to do their bit towards keeping the environment green.
The event, called Harita Vasundhara, was the first by the group this year and its biggest till date in terms of participation. The ambience was majestic with the beautiful women doctors draped in gorgeous and resplendent green saris, taking the opportunity to catch up and bond with one another, enjoying their rare break from demanding and stressful routines.
The high point of the evening was a fashion walk choreographed by Pinky Kenworthy, during which the doctors walked down the steps in their saris with absolute grace, elegance and consummate ease. There was music and merriment in the air as the DJ played Indi-pop like Talvin Singh’s Butterfly, Indian Vibes and Shiva Moon by Prem Joshua. Later, Bollywood and Western hits like Taki taki, Calm down, Abhi toh party shuru hui hai, Ghungroo and Badtameez dil drew the doctors to the dance floor.
Earlier, the ladies solemnly took the ‘DNSK Green Pledge’ led by sari connoisseur, cause ambassador and chairperson of the Doctors & Sarees Group Kolkata, Dr Rupali Basu. The doctors took an oath to protect flora and fauna, plant trees and shrubs, create terrace and kitchen gardens and generally, keep the environment green.
“The binding force for the members of DNSK is obviously their love for saris. At our events, we renew our camaraderie and connect with each other. We have a nice time amid song and dance while never slipping on the style quotient. We also go beyond just having fun and leave a meaningful message each time,” said Dr Rupali Basu.
Formed in 2019, the Doctors and Sarees group has close to 40,000 doctor members worldwide who are passionate about saris. DNS Kolkata, which already has 350-odd members, also endeavours to promote the sari, especially among GenNext, and in turn, support weavers, artisans and everyone involved in the sari trade.
Work hard and party harder was the mantra for these doctors as they stepped onto the dance floor and danced to the beats of Bollywood chartbusters.
Chairperson of Doctors & Sarees Group Kolkata and managing director and CEO of Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital, Dr Rupali Basu looked stunning in a bottle green monochrome sari with a zardozi and sequinned border.
