The International Kolkata Book Fair returned to the city with much fanfare on February 28 after a gap of one year. Organised by the Publishers and Booksellers Guild, the fair celebrated Children's Day today.

“Every year, we dedicate the theme of the Pavilion to an author. This year, we are celebrating the late children's book author Narayan Debnath. The entire Pavilion is decorated with his book covers,” Rabin Basu Ray, in-charge of the children's Pavilion, told My Kolkata on Sunday at the Salt Lake Central Park venue.

"I have grown up reading Narayan Debnath's comics and so has my elder son. Now, my youngest, as well. I read the comics to them to inculcate this tradition," said parent Banhishekha Majumdar.

On till March 13, the Pavilion has a wide range of books catering to infants and young teenagers. “We are even handing out candy to our little customers,” smiled Ray.

The largest non-trade book fair has had, on average, more than one lakh visitors every day since the inauguration on February 28. Over 1.75 lakh turned up on March 2, the day of Maha Shivratri, Guild president Sudangshu Sekhar Dey told PTI on Friday.
