Jamshedpur, Oct. 25: Solving the toughest mathematical problems would no more be an uphill task for city students. Vedic sutras and ancient formulae would help them crack puzzling riddles.

Business Excellence Group of Jusco has decided to incorporate a paper on Vedic mathematics in schools here. The step, taken as part of Jusco’s initiative to incorporate excellence in education, is awaiting schools’ approval.

“We try our best to incorporate the best practices in our education system. When we came across this unique concept, we thought it would be of help to students in the competitive age,” said Anil Kumar, chief of the Business Excellence Group of Jusco.

Right now, Vedic mathematics is taught in several schools in the Northeast.

To begin with, Jusco has sought help from Ashutosh Agarwal, an expert in Vedic mats and secretary of the Gurukul, a leading school in Guwahati. He would act as the resource person for implementing the new course.

Vedic mathematics is likely to be incorporated as an add-on subject in schools. “Since neither ICSE nor CBSE has provision for Vedic math, schools would go in for an add-on choice to teach this subject,” said Kumar.

The implementing authorities, however, have left it to the schools to decide on how to go about the new subject in future.

To begin with, Business Excellence Group has decided to hold a series of training sessions for math teachers to provide them with the complete know-how on the mathematical delight. The first such session with teachers was held last Monday.

Once implemented, Vedic maths would help students get rid of their maths phobia to a great extent. It will help students solve problems in every genre of mathematics — arithmetic, algebra calculus and geometry.
