Jamshedpur, April 20: Two badminton umpires from the steel city will have special duty at the India Open Series, 2013.

They will keep an eye on technical aspects of the game scheduled to be held in New Delhi from April 23 to 28.

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) has appointed Ranjeet Kumar Singh and Raju Kumar as technical officials for the prestigious tournament, which is the only international-level competition organised in the country.

Renowned players from across the world, including Taufik Hidayat, Lee Chong Wei, Saina Nehwal and Shejian Wang, will vie for the top honours at the tourney.

Jharkhand Badminton Association secretary K. Prabhakar Rao, who is also joint secretary of BAI, said the appointment of Singh and Kumar as officials at the tournament was a commendable feat.

“Both the umpires are experienced and we are sure that they would ably discharge their responsibilities at the India Open Super Series,” Rao added.

Raju Kumar had topped the national-level umpires’ examination in 2010. “Kumar is the first umpire from the eastern region to secure the first position,” informed Rao.
