Ranchi, Aug. 27: Girls hailing from poor families would get an opportunity to pick up the finer nuances of tailoring in order to make their lives seamless.

A vocational training centre at Ballika Siksha Bhavan in Circular Road, which was inaugurated today by Doctors’ Wives’ Association, would give them the chance to improve their lives.

Secretary of Doctors’ Wives’ Association Jhuma Sircar said they have rented a room to start the centre. “This centre will be only for girls from below poverty line families residing in nearby area. They would be taught cutting and stitching,” said Sircar.

She said the girls could learn stitching and later sell the clothes they have stitched so that they could earn something and improve the lives of their families and themselves.

“We have also decided to start a beautician course and teach the girls embroidery as well as jam and jelly making, among others,” she said.

These courses would be started later. The courses would be of three to six month duration. As of now, seven girls have enrolled from the course here.

“We are also planning to open such centres in other areas to cater to the needs of girls coming from poor families,” said the secretary of the association.

The centre has one machine now and plans to get another one within a few days.

“The centre would be run by the donations collected by the association,” she said.

“There are 85 members in our association.”
