Jamshedpur, Nov. 23: East Singhbhum district administration is set to announce its election schedule to organise the union election even as hectic poll-related activities are on by the Intuc-backed Telco Workers? Union (TWU).

East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Sunil Kumar Burnwal said today the TWU poll schedule would be announced in a day or two.

?We have made it clear to TWU that we will conduct the election, as the state labour ministry has directed the three-member panel to oversee the election process,? Burnwal said.

State labour commissioner Nidhi Khare had formed a three-member panel headed by the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner to oversee the process of elections in TWU.

Khare?s steps come in wake of demands by a section of the TWU members that they wanted a neutral agency to monitor the poll, as they feared malpractice.

Although the panel issued a letter to TWU general secretary Gopeshwar, directing him to restrain from undertaking any poll-related exercises, hectic activities are on at present at the union on the same issue.

Gopeshwar wrote to Burnwal informing him that under the Trade Union Act it was the sole responsibility of the union to conduct the election. TWU has received instructions from state unit of INTUC to conduct the election.

TWU sources said Gopeshwar is determined to hold the poll on December 6 and 7 as announced earlier. District administration sources said deputy collector Sharda Vinayak has been appointed as the election officer for the TWU poll.

?He was on leave and joined office today. He will meet the deputy commissioner tomorrow before he announces the dates for the poll,? sources said.
