Jamshedpur, Oct. 1: The steel city will serve as the launching pad for telecom giant ? Tata Teleservices ? in the eastern zone.

After 12 days of successful network trial run, Tata Teleservices Limited is all set to launch its CMDA mobile and fixed wireless services in the city. The company has proposed three dates between October 4 and October 6 for launching Tata Indicom.

Sources said the dates were finalised during a meeting of the company?s top brass in Mumbai. At the meeting, it was decided that top officials of the company, including chairman Firdaus Vandrewala and president Ajay Pandey, would attend the launching ceremony.

After Jamshedpur, the company plans to expand its services across the state to Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Chaas.

Company spokesperson Gaurav Wahi said necessary groundwork, including testing of mobile towers, has been completed.

He said the company will offer attractive value-for-money tariff plans and a wide range of handsets.

Five exclusive franchisee showrooms will be set up across the city in a few days. The showrooms will accept applications from subscribers for connections to all the three services ? pre-paid, post-paid and fixed wireless, he said.

The company will offer handsets of Nokia, Motorola and Kyosera, a US-based company.

The handsets of Nokia and Kyosera have been designed on the latest technology called Ruim, in which subscribers can either opt for SIM cards or in-built chips.

Wahi said for the pre-paid service, initially the company would provide recharge vouchers of Rs 324 (inclusive of 8 per cent service tax) with a talktime of Rs 300.

The tariff would be 5 paise per second for outgoing calls. Moreover, subscribers would get an introductory offer which will include one lakh second (about 28 hours) free talk time with 2,000 free SMS.

For fixed wireless connection, subscribers would have to pay Rs 800 as security deposit and an additional Rs 1,000 for availing STD facility.
