Giridih, March 4: Shibu Soren, in his first public rally after being sworn in as the chief minister, tried to project his government as ?pro-poor? and made a number of promises to cement his claim.

The most prominent of his promises was job for one family member of each of those who were killed in ?Jharkhand Andolan?.

?I have the list of total number of people who became martyrs during the Jharkhand Andolan and now they will get their due,? Soren said.

In the same tone, he promised: ?Now no one will die of starvation and no son or daughter will be unemployed in the state.?

The rally was organised on the occasion of the 32nd foundation day of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). More than 10,000 people had gathered at the venue here to attend the rally. The crowd chanted ?veer Shibu zindabad? as drum beats rented the air as the chief minister reached the venue.

Soren thanked the public for their support that ?made? him the chief minister.

Soren made his intention clear on the working style of the police. ?I am not going to tolerate any case of harassment by the police or any influential person under any police station.?

Apart from warning the police to carry out their duty properly, Soren said: ?I will not only punish people (pointing towards officers) for their big crimes but also for smaller ones as well.?

Soren did not forget to claim confidently that he will prove his majority in the floor of the House. He alleged that the ?BJP could not digest that a poor tribal became the chief minister?.

The JMM district president Sudipt Kumar Sonu told The Telegraph that last year Soren had promised from this dais that if voted to power he will definitely come here to thank the people. ?In spite of his busy schedule, Soren has not forgotten his promise,? he said.
