Russian legacy not enough to bind Left

Ranchi, Nov. 7: The Russian Revolution day celebrations failed to bring Left parties on to a common platform, in spite of their attempts to forge an alliance to overthrow the NDA governments at the Centre and the state.

While the CPI held rally to overthrow the Vajpayee and Arjun Munda governments, a Marxist Coordination Committee (MCC) rally aimed at changing the system.

State secretaries of CPM and CPI-ML (liberation) had participated in the CPI rally and assured their support for strengthening the Left movement.

The CPI-ML (liberation) also held a separate rally in Ranchi. “Changing the government is not the solution. We need to change the system. Our party has been celebrating the Russian revolution day in Ranchi for several years. Had the CPI rally been organised on another day, our representative would definitely have participated,” said MCC general-secretary A.K. Roy.

He added that there was no communal tension in Russia during the communist rule.

Body recovered: The Namkum police today recovered a dead body of a 15-year-old from a drain near Dipatoli, reports our Ranchi correspondent.

The police sources murder. According to the police, the boy drowned in the driain and died. The body has been sent for post-mortem

Kidnap: Suspected MCC rebels kidnapped the manager of Bagra More branch of Bank of India near Simaria in Chatra district in the afternoon today, reports our Hazaribagh correspondent.

Police said over 100 extremists stormed the bank, asked for manager Hari Singh Jarika, and took him away.
