Dec. 25: Violence onscreen and off it was what awaited all those who queued up outside Sujata Hall Complex in Ranchi for tickets to Aamir Khan’s Ghajini today.

Thousands of youths gathered in front of the hall from early in the morning to buy tickets. As soon as the ticket counters were opened for the first show starting at 11am, there was a mad rush as people jumped the queue. Some climbed on peoples’ shoulders while others brandished belts and sticks as they fought for tickets. The hall management had to resort to mild use of force to keep them at bay.

XISS student Vibhore Sarawgi, who was at the cinema hall with his friends, said that the film had attracted a lot of attention due to the hype created by Aamir Khan.

“Khan’s physique and hair style has become a craze. We are waiting to see the movie,” Sarawgi said about the remake from the Tamil version.

Aamir plays the role of a man out to avenge the killing of his girlfriend in the movie. The only problem is he has anterograde amnesia — short term memory loss. “The movie is very interesting and the actor has put in a lot of effort and hard work to live up to the character in the movie,” Sarawgi gushed, while Rajesh Nag nodded in agreement.

A contractor by profession, Nag said that he is also planning to get a similar hairstyle. “Khan as an actor has been superb and the movie is a sure hit,” he added.

Sujata proprietor Dushyant Jaiswal was satisfied with the response. “The crowd started collecting outside the theatre from early this morning and the gates had to be opened to avoid traffic snarls on the Main Road. Advance bookings for the Miniplex have been made till December 28 and all shows are running to full houses,” he said.

Multiplex movie

Aamir Khan’s Ghajini will be the first film to be screened through satellite link after Hazaribagh deputy commissioner Vinay Choubey inaugurates Cineplex tomorrow.

Tipped to be an entertainment zone for the entire family, the campus would have movie halls, superior lights and a digital sound system. Other than a canteen, work is on to start a children’s amusement centre here very soon.

Owner of Cineplex B.K. Jaiswal said Vidya, the new hall, would have 700 seats. “We have come up with the concept of the family box. The hall has three boxes with sitting capacity of eight in each. The cost will be Rs 320,” said Jaiswal.
