Jamshedpur, March 18: District police busted a gang of robbers and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 3 lakh by raiding a jeweller’s shop in Siwan district of Bihar following interrogation of a suspect, Indro Nag, at Burmamines police station.

Besides recovering gold, the police also arrested a Siwan-based goldsmith who had melted 3kg of stolen gold ornaments. A few days ago, the police arrested two suspected bike-lifters, Bibhas Paswan and Indro Nag.

On being interrogated, Nag — a resident of Gamharia — confessed to having committed a dacoity at Jagannathpur in West Singhbhum district last year.

Nag revealed that he, along with four of his associates, had followed trader Inder Verma, and robbed gold jewellery from him near the Jagannathpur railway station. A resident of Bagbera Colony, Verma would trade in gold jewellery and travel in cities and small townships of Jharkhand and Bihar.

According to the police, the accused had tried to dispose of the stolen ornaments in the city, but finding it difficult he sold the ornaments worth Rs 19 lakh for Rs 5 lakh to goldsmith Bhola Soni, owner of Sriram Jewellers at Raghunathpur in Siwan.
