Jamshedpur, April 24: After having blown up water resources minister Kamlesh Singh?s ancestral home in Palamau, the Naxalites apparently seemed to have targeted the city?s posh Northern Town area.

Posters carrying such messages and signed by the rebel outfit MCC were today put up at the deputy commissioner and the police superintendent?s office throwing serious doubts over the efficacy of security arrangements at the offices of such senior government officers.

The posters, which were written in red, quite symbolical of the rebel colours, warned that the entire Northern Town area would be blown off if the elections of the Tata Worker?s Union were not held in a free and fair manner.

Incidentally, the Northern town area is the home of the top Tata Steel executives besides a litany of senior Central and state government officers.

The posters, stuck right on the faces of senior government officials on the first day of a five-day nationwide band call by the Naxalites, have created a sensation among the rank and file of the police fraternity in the district.

Senior officials of the police, however, are dispelling the act as a prank by a member of the faction-ridden Tata Workers? Union but are looking into the incident to trace the culprit.

Superintendent of police Ashish Batra told The Telegraph that the posters were indeed signed off by MCC but underplayed the event.

?This is definitely a mischief and seems to have nothing to do with any Maoist outfit. But I have still ordered a probe for it so that those responsible for the act can be found out,? Batra said, adding that he had removed the posters, which were put up on the gates of his office.

Batra elaborated his contention by saying that the posters seemed to have been prepared by a raw hand, and not by someone from a Maoist outfit.

?The letters on the posters were not like those of the Maoists. Moreover, the get-up of the posters were also not good and quite unlike the rebels,? the SP said.

A senior official of the district police claimed they conduct regular patrols in the areas where the offices of the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police are located.

?In fact, we carry out intensive patrolling in the nights. But we are at a loss and really cannot explain how anyone can manage to put up those posters at the two offices,? an officer said.
