Ranchi shuttlers win

Ranchi, Aug. 30: Displaying some brilliant moves, the Ranchi Army School boys and girls reigned supreme, in both the individual and team events, to lift the Inter-Army School Badminton Championships at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) badminton hall here today.

In the team events, the army boys defeated their Danapur counterparts 2-0. While the army girls in the same event defeated the Danapur girls? team 2-1.

In the boys? section, Rahul Kumar of Army School defeated Shashi Ranjan of Danapur in straight sets. For the second match Rakesh from Ranchi defeated Rahul Ranjan of Danapur 15-3, 15-0 in the second match to win the team event 2-0. Meanwhile, Dimpy Kumari of Danapur played well and defeated Bushra of Ranchi 11-9, 11-1. Ranchi girl Lucky, however, fought back in the second match and defeated Preeti Kumari of Danapur 11-7, 11-7 to equalise in the team events. The third and final match in the team events for the girls was won by Ranchi to emerge as the overall victors.

Similarly, in the individual section, the Ranchi boys dominated as Rahul of Ranchi Army school defeated Rakesh, also from the Ranchi team in straight sets to win 15-9, 15-6.

In the individual girls? section, Bushra of Ranchi defeated Lucky 9-11, 11-7 and 11-4. The chief guest in the prize distribution ceremony was the Sports Authority of India in-charge (Ranchi), Sushil Kumar Verma, who praised the outstanding effort of the players.
