Jamshedpur, March 9: The district administration today effected fresh guidelines for movement of vehicles to ease traffic congestion in the steel city.

The new timings have been announced keeping in mind the convenience of schoolchildren.

Following a high-level meeting on February 26, the meeting held today, chaired by deputy commissioner Nitin Madan Kulkarni, was attended by traffic police officials and also representatives of different companies.

Kulkarni announced that no heavy vehicles (trucks, dumpers or trailers) would be allowed entry into the city from 6.30 am to 8.30 am and again from 5.30 pm to 10 pm with immediate effect.

At present, the no-entry hours are from 7 am to 9 am and from 2 pm to 9 pm.

According to the new orders, heavy vehicles coming from Sundernagar and Adityapur would be allowed to enter the city after 8.30 am while those coming from Dimna Chowk will be allowed entry from 9 am to 12.30 pm.

Heavy vehicles coming from the Sundernagar and Adityapur areas would be allowed to pass between 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm while those coming from Dimna Chowk and Telco would be allowed entry from 3 pm to 5 pm.

Entry would, however, be allowed to all kinds of vehicles, including those carrying iron ore from Sundernagar, from 10 pm to 6.30 am.

The deputy commissioner said no-entry boards would be put up at all major points of the city.

Posters would also be pasted all over the city to make people aware about the no-entry timings.

Kulkarni has directed the traffic DSP F.K.N. Kujur to lodge cases against truck owners who park near Sunsunia Gate, Burmamines, under Section 133 (of the Criminal Penal Code, which deals with public nuisance).
