Dhanbad, June 23: The National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (Nabard) has selected Govindpur block of Dhanbad, about 12km from the district headquarters, for the pilot project for integrated development of backward blocks (PPID).
The objective of PPID is comprehensive development of the selected backward blocks in an integrated way with special focus on economic and infrastructure development, education, health and drinking water supply. All these would essentially involve agencies like municipal corporation, panchayats, banks, NGOs, self-help groups, social organisations and other development agencies.
A senior official of the district said the decision to choose Govindpur was taken after a survey of the demography, livelihood and health condition of people residing in the block.
Kurmidih has been specially chosen under the programme, he added.
The implementation of the project would involve organising workshops and meetings with NGOs and government agencies working in the block.
Co-ordination with government departments for social development is also one of the essential components of the project, which includes education, health, women, child development and implementation of the development programmes of the state government.
Under the project, the development bank envisaged convergence of all major schemes, including the ongoing projects and those to be launched.
