Moving stairs at Bokaro station

Lifts, ATMs, water vending machines, Bokaro station is all set to come up with a host of passenger amenities by 2017-end.

A pair of escalator-lift each will be installed at platform 1 and near the walkway connecting platforms 2 and 3, respectively. Installation work is underway and likely is get over by June-end.

This apart, an ATM, two water vending machines and a portico on the station premises will come in a month or two.

"The lifts and escalators are being constructed at the cost of Rs 2.5 crore and will be functional by July this year. I am sure this will be a boon for passengers," said B.K. Majhi, senior divisional commercial manager of Adra division.

Five water kiosks are already present at Bokaro station. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Service (IRCTC) will put up two new water vending machines at platforms 1 and 2, respectively, to be functional by next week.

"A portico is also being constructed at a cost of Rs 1 crore. It will guard the station premises against harsh weather and impart aesthetics to the structure," said Majhi.

Bokaro station already boasts a five bedded non-AC retiring book, a four-bedded dormitory and a food court.

Set up in 1961, the lone A-grade station of Adra division under South Eastern Railway sees around 8,000 passengers a day. Over 30 express and seven passenger trains cross the station daily.
