This school with its teachers, staff and students, feel that the motto ? Nothing Beyond ? describes its ambitions and aspirations that they hold dear. At the same time it helps those attached to Surendranath Centenary School to meet all the challenges that life throws at them.

Established in 1988 by Sarasi Bala Debi Trust in collaboration with Surendranath Trust of Calcutta, it is a relatively new school in Ranchi but has already carved a niche for itself among other renowned institutions in the city.

The institution was set up to commemorate the centenary of the first school ever to be established by the Sudrendranath Group of Educational Institutions by Rashtraguru Surendranath Banerjee.

This school places special emphasis on value-based education to inculcate a sense of discipline among all its students. Life here is based not only on the material or academic successes, but rather on the fulfilment of all the characteristics that make one a good citizen.

Starting from LKG to Class XII with both science and commerce streams, the batches that have passed out so far have shown promising results and the school hopes to widen their horizons. Students are also encouraged to take active part in social service programmes for character building and comprehend the dignity of manual labour in order to develop a sense of responsibility.

Infrastructure

A mathematics laboratory was recently inaugurated in the school to make learning easier and more practical. The school has two separate buildings for primary and senior sections. The primary section has its own playground while the senior section is spread across four floors.

This school has a well-stocked library that has around 10,000 books to cater to different tastes. It has an excellent stock of fiction, reference books and texts on various subjects apart from encyclopedias and journals.

Library

Each class has a period in a week allotted for the library. Students from Class IV can also borrow books for a fortnight.

Labs

There is one computer each for the senior and the junior section. Both the labs have 40 terminals for students to polish that essential technical knowledge. Students from Class III have individual access to the computers. Besides, there are three separate well-equipped science laboratories for physics, chemistry and biology.

The newly constructed school auditorium is being used for various school functions.

Activities

To build a spirit of healthy competition, inculcate self-confidence and team spirit, students are divided into four houses and they compete against each other in a healthy manner.

Various activities like elocution, debate, quiz, music, sports and games are held for which points are awarded.

At the end of the year the house with highest points, is awarded a running trophy. Pupils are also individually given certificates for outstanding performances.

Compulsory

It is obligatory for all pupils from Class III to Class V to take either yoga or karate. Classes are held on the school premises once a week and competent instructors train the pupils. Students are required to opt for one of the many activities held at the beginning of the year and cannot change it before the end of the academic session.

Awards

Amala Goswami Endowment Silver Medal-cum-certificate is awarded to the most outstanding student from the outgoing Class X batch. Besides, Ranadeb Choudhari Silver Medal-cum-certificate is awarded to the student of the school securing the highest aggregate in science in Class XII.

Special achievements

The students participate in a number of extracurricular activities like IT quiz, Bournvita quiz, inter-school debate competition, All-India Cyber Olympiad and postal letter writing competition. Rohit Roy of the school bagged the prize for the best entry from Jharkhand in postal letter writing competition. Besides, it was also the joint winners with Delhi Public School in Mahfuz Alam u-17 cricket tournament.

Excellence

Students have made the school proud by topping many competitive examinations and getting into reputed institutions. Many have excelled in top medical and engineering examinations in institution like BIT-Mesra, A.I.E.E.E, Vellore Engineering, Karnataka Engineering, Orissa combined and CBSE and PMT.
