Kolhan floats council

Jamshedpur, June 7: Kolhan University today, under Section 55 and Section 24 of Jharkhand State Universities Act, 2000, floated a new finance committee and an academic council.

The academic council, which is the first such body to be formed by the varsity, will comprise 36 members and is expected to have the final say in matters related to syllabus and giving the nod for inclusion of various courses.

According to officials, the pro vice chancellor, five deans, the director of higher education, heads of 16 postgraduate departments of the university, principals of various colleges, including Jamshedpur Women’s College; SP College, Chandil; ABM College, Jamshedpur; Jamshedpur Co-operative College; Graduate School College for Women, JLN College, Chakradharpur and MGM College and Hospital, will make up the academic council.

This apart, principals of five affiliated colleges — Karim City College, RVS College of Engineering; Netaji Subhas Institute of Business Management; Patamda College and Manoharpur-based St Augustine College — will also b part of the council. The body, at a later stage, will also have a member of the student’s union and a nominee appointed by the governor.

“The academic council floated will function for a period of three years,” said Kolhan university vice-chancellor Salil Kumar Roy.

The finance committee similarly will have seven members, one financial advisor and a state government nominee, who is yet to be named.
