Dumka, Aug. 8: The district chapter of the state legal services authority today held a daylong training for police officers and members of child welfare committees on juvenile justice and rehabilitation of errant children.
Secretary of the district legal services authority Ravi Shankar Upadhyaya said the Supreme Court had expressed deep concern over ignorance of various laws by police officers, who form a crucial link in the justice delivery mechanism.
“Laws on juvenile justice have unfortunately failed to fulfil the purpose, largely due to the ignorance at the primary level,” he said, pointing out that delinquents should not referred as criminals, as such words might have a lifelong negative effect on them.
