Hazaribagh, May 8: Whether India is shining may be debatable, but this small block in Hazaribagh definitely is.
Hazaribagh MP and Union minister of state for finance Jayant Sinha who yesterday came to Churchu, and Union minister.
Regarding Chamakta Churchu, he said the campaign had paved the way for making the entire district open-defecation free by the end of this financial year. "The state government has agreed to fund the project," said the DC.
The district administration, which hopes to get for Churchu the tag of the state's first open-defecation-free block, has sent a letter to the state government in this regard.
Nodal officer of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Hazaribagh Pranav Pal said Ramgarh's Dulmi block had also sent a similar request.
For now, to regularly use their home toilets andKnowing that old habits die hard, these committee members will stay active in mornings and evenings to catch people defecating in open.If they do, they would play drums or blow a whistle as a warning. The local village committee will decide how to punish such public defecators.
"Constructing toilets is only a part of the solution. The real change comes when people shun defecating in the open and use toilets for a more hygienic life," DC Kumar said. "Only then does a block or a district become open-defecation-free," he said.
