Ranchi, Oct. 2: Situated on Main Road, Roshpa Towers is a popular destination for the young ladies in town.
Attracted by the designer mojaris (jootis) imported from Pakistan, buyers who come flocking are simply spoilt for choice.
Flats to high-heeled mojaris, this exclusive showroom stocks them in pinks, golds, blacks and every possible attractive colour.
These hand-designed mojaris, especially created by the skilled workers of Rawalpindi and Lahore, are neatly stacked in this exclusive showroom.
Also high on the demand list are the jootis from Jaipur, Punjab and Jodhpur.
Prices vary and suit most budgets. Mojaris from Jaipur and Jodhpur cost between Rs 250-Rs 350, while those from Pakistan start from Rs 800 and go upto Rs 1,500.
The floral designs in pure camel leather carved with silk threads and embellished with sequins, zardosi and beads, have become an instant hit with the customers.
Ghazala Ameen, who was seen enthusiastically checking out a Pakistani mojari, said: “These type of jootis are also found in other shops but the leather is very hard. One of my friends suggested I should come here. The jootis are soft and the colours and designs chic, making them worth the cost,” she said.
S.A. Khan, the owner of the showroom, Ladecorum and Mojari, said that after quitting his job in Delhi, he wanted to try risking something new.
“Initially, I carried out a survey in the market to find out the taste of people. I found that there was a large market for such products and people were actually placing orders in Delhi and Calcutta,” he said.
It was then he seriously started thinking of venturing into this field.
“I started this showroom in a area of 80sq foot, with mojaris for both men and women. After getting a positive response, I decided to expand the area by getting mojaris from Pakistan, Jaipur and Jodhpur, which were an instant hit,” Khan said.
Soon the demand grew, with customers coming in with requests for jootis for their children as well.
These products grew popular because they lasted long and are of pure camel leather, he pointed out. “We have, in fact, even improved the Pakistani mojari by giving them extra padding, which provides quality and comfort. We are pioneers in this type of mojaris in the state,” Khan said.
The misconception which existed earlier that mojaris are meant to be worn only on special occasions and are not for regular use, has been now broken, he pointed out.
Now they are part of daily wear, even with modern wear like jeans and T-shirts.
No matter what, he ensures that quality is maintained, he says. “On that there’s no compromise. That’s my USP,” he says. And that ensures that the customers keep coming back for more.
