Jamshedpur, Sept. 25: With the pujas just round the corner, the East Singhbhum administration is leaving no stones unturned for ensuring a safe, sound and hygienic celebration.

With earlier cases of drowning reported from the dangerous ghats and the water level in the rivers on a high, the administration is taking cautionary steps. Although there are ten ghats where the immersions usually take place, keeping in mind the slope and current of water, three ghats have been identified where special barricades and demarcations would be constructed for safety.

These ghats would include the ghats of Kapali and Domuhani, which would be barricaded with bamboo demarcations. The third ghat has not been decided yet.

“We are also keeping rescue boats at the Kapalu and Domuhani ghats for emergencies,” said SDO (Dalbhum), C. Shikha. The construction of the demarcation lines would take place from October 1.

The ten immersion ghats are Bhuiadih Balu ghat, Bhuiadih bus stand ghat, Swarnarekha main ghat, Sakchi ghat, Kapali ghat, Domuhani ghat, Sub-station ghat, Sathi ghat, Bodhanwala ghat and Baroda ghat.

Shikha pointed out that although the Swarnarekha ghat is one of the most important ones and most of the immersions take place there, no demarcations have been done around it as there is no steep slope and the current is also not strong there. “An administrative team had inspected it and declared that the ghat is not as dangerous as the ones demarcated,” said Shikha.

Ten special medical teams, equipped with first aid, would be posted at all the ghats.

The East Singhbhum civil surgeon, Sanjay Kishore Ravi, told The Telegraph: “We have formed 10 medical teams which would be posted with first aid equipment at all the ghats from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.”

Officials are also contemplating creating a task force to keep tabs on the road-side eateries and check whether they are serving food cooked in hygienic conditions.

“We would conduct meetings with the other officials, including the food inspector, and eateries have to serve hygienic food,” Ravi added.
